Career Growth?

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

What do you think of, when someone asks you about career growth? I hope you do not think like the most of us, that is, career growth = more money! Well, money does play an important role in our lives (and we'll talk about money in another blog... someday!). But how about the path you need to carve out for your career growth? Lets talk a bit about that in this blog.

Set your goals

The first step, in my belief, is to set a goal. Where do you want to see yourself in the next 5-10 years timeframe. This is your longer term goal. To achieve this goal, what are the shorter term goals you need to set in the next 1-2 years?

Measure your growth:

Setting targets or milestones to keep a check on whether you are on track is a good way to ensure you will most certainly achieve your goals or at least come close to it.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Take a notebook and a pencil. I personally have started using a pencil to take notes; kind of gives you the feeling of going back to school.

  2. Start making notes on your goals, targets, milestones

  3. Find a mentor (or a coach)

  4. Start taking baby steps, one at a time.

  5. Setback? No problem, get back on your feet, look at your notes, energize yourself and get going once again... remember "Incy Wincy Spider"?!?!

Once you get into the groove, you will slowly find that it becomes a habit and as we all know "habits die hard". I am sure you will start achieving your goals slowly but surely!
